West Yorkshire Virtual School Games

On Tuesday 7th July pupils all over West Yorkshire will be participating in the Virtual School Games. Please see the attached document and have a go at some/all of the activities with your children. Upload your scores on the website (info of how to do this is included in the attached document) and the school could win prizes. Good luck and enjoy. Year 2 Rugby with Leeds Rhinos

Year 2 have been learning to play tag Ruby with Leeds Rhinos.

We had the BEST afternoon at the Inclusive Sportshall Athletics.

The whole school participated in the NAK and Boccia. it was so close but the overall winners were Oak!

Sports Day

The day started with the whole school watching and cheering on the wheelchair races. KS1 then showed off their skills in the morning and KS2 in the afternoon. Well done to all!

Athletics- Leeds Beckett University

A brilliant Saturday morning at the athletics. We won nearly all of the relays and lots of other medals!

Inter House Cross Country

Fabulous effort from every single child in the school this morning during the cross country event. medals will be awarded in assembly.

Yeadon Tarn

All of Year 4 visited Yeadon Tarn and loved participating in canoeing, team building and orienteering.

UCI world championships

We were so lucky this morning to have a visit from a previous champion. We also participated in our own cycling event.

Brownlee Triathlon

We had a brilliant time at the Brownlee Triathlon this morning! the rain didn't stop us!

Basketball Competition

A huge well done to our Y4/5 basketball team who represented the school brilliantly at Leeds Beckett University last night. What fantastic Basketball we saw! The team won their first game against Tranmere Park 14-4, they won their second game against Horsforth Featherbank 4-0 and were unlucky to concede a basket in the last 2 seconds of the game against Horsforth St Margaret’s which resulted in a 2-0 loss. Well done children!

Sports Day

Amazing sports day! We couldn't have wished for better weather.

Swimming Competition Winners!

We are so so proud of our swimming team! They showed amazing grit, determination and team-work to beat 4 other schools in the Leeds North West SSP. Well done!


Wow! That was hard! We absolutely loved the Goalball competition this morning and really had to use our other senses when we were blind folded!

Inclusive Sportshall Athletics

We ran, jumped and threw all morning at the athletics and had a brilliant time!

Sportshall Athletics

Well done to our athletes who came a very respectful 3rd place at the sportshall athletics. You were a credit to the school and the youngest team at the competition!

Inclusive Golf

Some of our children attended an inclusive golf event at John Charles, this was organised by Cookridge Hall Golf Club. The children had a brilliant day and learnt some new golf skills!

Year 1 LS16 Cluster Competition

Our year 1's competed against 4 other schools in the area. We played Football, Volleyball, Boccia, New Age Kurling and performed some multi-skills, we had a brilliant day!

Brownlee Triathlon

Our Year 5 and 6 children attended the Brownlee Triathlon at John Charles Centre for Sport. They swam, cycled and ran, they absolutely loved it!

Y4 Drax Cricket- Winners

Our Year 4 cricketers won the competition! Well done children you won all of your games and are now going to represent Leeds at the West Yorkshire Games!

Year 5 competition against Cookridge Primary

Our Y5's showed great skills, passion and sportsmanship when competing against Cookridge. We had 3 teams and they all played Dodgeball, Basketball and Football.

Gymnastics City Finals

Our AMAZING year 4 gymnasts came second in the Leeds City Gymnastics finals! They worked hard for months to learn a sequence, body management routine and perfect the vault. We even made it into a local school sports magazine! Miss O'Brien is so proud of you children!

Intra-House cross country

The whole school participated in the cross country competition, well done everyone for trying really hard especially the medal winners! The overall winning team was.....ELM!

Girls Football

Great game against Horsforth Newlaithes. We went 2 down in the first half but came back fighting in the second half and didn't concede any goals.


What a brilliant morning we had at the Panathlon. We participated in lots of different activities and came 5th overall out of all of the schools in West Yorkshire!

LS16 Cluster Gymnastics Competition

Our A, B and C team competed against other schools in the LS16 Cluster. They performed 3 different aspects each. Our A team came 2nd by 0.1 mark! Well done all!


Some brilliant Tennis played against Cookridge Primary School. The children scored and umpired each others games, great leadership and sportsmanship skills were shown.

Sportshall Athletics

Winners! well done to our Athletes who won their 1st round heat against 5 other schools. In the final we came a very respectable 3rd, Mr Blackburn and Miss O'Brien are so proud of you!


Well done to our footballers who played a tournament against Newlaithes and Holy Trinity. We unfortunately lost to Newlaithes and won against Holy Trinity.

Cross Country

Huge congratulations to our runners who participated in the cross country competition, you were brilliant! A special mention to Matthew (year 6) who came 7th out of over 50 boys and Kyro who came 6th out of over 50 boys too. Amazing!

Sitting Volleyball Competition

As part of their PE lessons Years 5 and 6 have been participating in, and learning about, the Paralympic Games. They held an intra school competition, well done to our winners, Willow.

Boccia and NAK intra school competition

The whole school participated in the above competitions, Beech won the Boccia and Elm won the NAK, it was a fabulous day which gave lots of our children the opportunity to participate in a new activity.

Skipping Competition

Our Year 4's participated in a Skipping competition organised by The Skipping School. The children got lots of individual Bronze, Silver and Gold medals. Our amazing effort for the skip dance gained us a Bronze award! Well done Mr Collins and the Year 4 children.

Leeds United Rail Safety

Leeds United, the Police and Network Rail teamed up to educate the children about Rail Safety. The children had a thoroughly enjoyable and useful morning. They got to play football in the station, have a station tour and meet the police.

Aegon Cup June

Some of Year 5 went to Ilkley Tennis Club for the morning. They were lucky enough to participate in a range of activities which helped improve their tennis skills. They absolutely loved watching the professionals play in an extremely close match. They were excited to hear that the overall winner received $50,000!

Brownlee Traithlon

Some children from Y3 participated in the Brownlee triathlon at John Charles Centre for Sport. They swam a length of the pool, cycled 800m, and ran 400m. We had a great day and even got to hold the leaders trophy for the World Series Triathlon. Unfortunately Jonathan and Alistair couldn't be there because they were busy training!

Kwik Cricket May 2016

Our Year 5 cricketers performed really well at the inter school cricket competition last week. Their teamwork was brilliant to see. They performed some excellent bowling, some amazing catches and we lost count of all of the 6's they were hitting! We came 3rd overall in our group- well done!


Our Year 1 Gymnasts won the LS16 Cluster Gymnastics Competition. They learnt a sequence off by heart, performed the vault and a body management routine. Well done children!

Leeds Force Basketball coaching and competition

Both Year 1 and 5 had a fabulous time participating in the coaching session and competitions against other schools. We learnt lots of new skills and then applied these in game situations.

Disability Athletics

Our athletes had a brilliant morning at John Charles. They participated in a range of running, jumping, throwing and wheelchair activities. Take a look at our medals!

Year 3/4 Gymnastics City Finals

Gymnasts, you were AMAZING! You were so cool, calm and collected when performing in front of the judges. Your performances were wonderful to watch!

Tag Rugby March 2016

Our Year 5's and 6's were runners up in the Tag Rugby competition. We narrowly missed out on qualifying for the city finals-by one try! However, the team work and resilience was lovely to watch. Well done especially to Kyle Asquith who is only in Year 4 and certainly 'held his own' against lots of Year 6's and even scored a couple of trys!

Gymnastic City Finals

Years 5 and 6 gymnasts represented Ireland Wood brilliantly at the Leeds City Gymnastics Final.

LS16 Gymnastics Competition

Well done to our 3 teams who entered the gymnastics competition. You worked so hard to memorise the sequence, perform the body management and mount and dismount the vault. All staff and parents were so proud!

Disability Aqua Festival Dec 2015

Our children loved the aqua festival! They got to participate in lots of fun games, activities and races. They all came away with a certificate and medal.

Year 6 Hockey Tournament

Our Year 6 Hockey Team narrowly missed out on winning the LS16 Cluster Competition. We came a very close 2nd place to Cookridge Primary School.

Sportshall Athletics

Well done to our Sportshall athletics team who qualified for the second round of the competition! You ran, jumped and threw amazingly. Great team work!

Year 2 Football Tournament Oct 2015

Ireland Wood hosted a city wide scooter event on the 17th September. The Mayoress attended along with a scooter stunt team who showed off their amazing skills. A number of schools attended at Ireland Wood were the overall winners.

West Yorkshire Sainsbury's School Games

Winners! Ireland Wood's Disability Gymnastics team are delighted to show off their medals and trophy for winning the regional final at the West Yorkshire Sainsbury's School Games. They have worked extremely hard over the past few weeks to learn a routine off by heart and build up to the vault. Well done team!

Disport Regional Finals

3 Golds and a Silver! Huge congratulations to our disability athletes who won 3 of their events, and came second in one, at the Disport Regional finals. Georgia Bailey, Lewis Hingerton and Shannon Roe you should all be extremely proud of yourselves!

Boccia and New Age Kurling

Winners!!! Brilliant team effort from the Boccia and New Age Kurling teams who won all of their games at John Charles Centre for Sport.

Under 11 Girls Football

The Key Stage 2 girls represented Ireland Wood brilliantly at the football tournament at Calverley Parkside.

Disport Athletics
