World Book Day 2015

We had an enjoyable day celebrating World Book Day at school. It was great to have parents in for 'Roll up and Read' in the morning. We had lots of fun creating our own stories using 'Storycraft'. Take a look and see what you think! Did we mention, we also got to dress-up as our favourite characters from Julia Donaldson or David Walliam's book!

Why is the Wii more fun than Grandad's old toys?

Abbey House Museum

Year 1 visited the museum on Kirkstall road as part of their History topic. The children took part in a workshop and learnt all about 'old' and 'new' toys. They also explored the Victorian streets and were allowed to dress up in old clothes. The children were very well behaved and had a great morning.

Grandparents Toy Party!

It was great to end our topic by hosting a 'Toy Party' at school! We invited our grandparents in to share our knowledge of toys and compete on the Wii. It was wonderful to see so many grandparents share in the children's learning.

English

Our writing is making so much progress, take a look at some of our Star Writers in Year 1 who have had their work published to a worldwide audience on the 'Lend Me Your Literacy' website! http://lendmeyourliteracy.com/portfolio/west-yorkshire/ireland-wood/ks1-ireland-wood/

We are using a variety of stimulating texts as a vehicle to develop our English skills this term:
